School System in Deutschland

Pre-School (Kindergärten)

Age : 5-6 years old

Mostly operated by NGO like churches, charity organisation, religious group/society and municipalities.

Elementary school  (Grundschüle)

Age : 7-11 years old

Differ from state to state. In Berlin and Brandenburg students start their elementary school at 6 and end it at 10. The curriculum stresses language skills and mathematics. At the end of the fourth year students and parents start to decide which type of secondary school is the best suit their need. However the end decision will be decided by the final examination,students aptitude and type of career their are going to undertake.

Secondary School (Hauptschule, Realschule, Gymnasium or Gesamtschule)
